Instructions & online user guide
1. Firstly, a Java Applet will be loaded. This takes about 20-30 seconds depending on your type & speed of connection. This imports the latest positional information as well as electronic navigational charts. By default, the positional information is updated every six hours (GMT time). Other polling frequencies can be requested.

2. A chart showing the position of the vessel(s) will appear.

3. To zoom-in to a specific area on the map, left-click and drag a rubber rectangle from the centre point of interest and then un-click the mouse. You can keep zooming in down to approximately 10m resolutionon. To step back, click on the back button. To go forward, click on the forward button

4. By left-clicking the yacht icon, the details of the latest automatic positional report (APR) is displayed. This includes date, time, positions, speed, heading & proximity. When right-clicking the yacht icon, a pop-up menu is displayed containing several options including:

show information
displays the latest positional report as seen when left-clicking.

show names / hide names acts as a toggle to display or hide the yacht names from the icons - useful if there are several yachts close together

history displays the historic position reports of the asset history with the latest position report flashing slowly. By default, 90 days history is displayed.

communication window activates a separate pop-up window for the sending and receiving of messages and to allow reconfiguration or polling of the asset transceiver (this is only available on the secure applet).

world map selects the world map

pan pans the map so that the point of clicking becomes the center.

home pans the map so that the latest position report is located at the center.

map style acts as a toggle to set the type of chart or map displayed.

meterological parameter is an amazing new feature whereby you can select and view any of ten meterological parameters. This data is updated globally every 15 seconds.

forecast hour allows you to select a forecast period and then, once you have choosed the meterological parameter, displays a forecast. For example, choose '4 day forecast', then click meterological parameter and choose 'wind speed and direction'. The wind information subsequently rendered on the chart is a forecast of the conditions in 4 days time.

strom graphics displays categorised global storms in real time.

Apple Mac Users - OceanTracker is fully functional as long as you are running the latest version of Apple Macintosh operating system - Panther OS 10.3 or later.

The OceanTracker apple will not work if you are running an older operating system such as 9 mainly due to limited Java support. There are however two possible working solutions to this problem:
a) upgrade to OS X which includes IE 5.1.
b) install Virtual PC and run IE for Windows.
